Tonights menu: Love going to Bao Thy! I have also been reliably informed that Gelsenkirchen is also home to the best Indian restaurant in the Ruhrgebiet - although how true this is I don't know. Have fun, it's at Hackescher Markt located in the back near the tram ending south side towards the Bang Bang Club alley way. You can also send us an email to trailing. What I especially enjoy about Asia Mekong are the familiar brands carried. Being thousands of miles away from home, this market provided me with all the components necessary for making my favorite Filipino dishes.

You can get your sushi making stuff there and be happy they've organized the items in a single area. A bit pricey, but alright if you crave some proper fresh ingredients like tofu and garlicky chives and flowers. This is also the only place I have seen fresh bok choy and other asian vegetables though not regularly. The fresh area has great imported I assume imported, maybe locally grown veggies, cheap tofu, and a fanciful array of veggies including chilis. Not a huge Asian supermarket, but pretty good by Berlin standards. One is directly across from the Kesselbrink parking lot and garage called Ngoc-Thao This is where I would normally put in a link but the website is not working and google shows the old address before they moved. They often have fresh dim sum at the register for sale as well as a large selection of various asian ingredients.

Prices are reasonable, I believe, especially if you're on a tight budget; though, fresh foods do cost a little more. First this one has a much better selection of dried mushrooms and herbs for traditional dishes. In the kids toy section they have English story, activity and sticker books too. Easy to find near the Alexanderplatz station. The place manages to be a little fresher and a little cheaper than most of the smaller neighbourhood Asian food shops I've tried in Berlin.

This will make you salivate if you've had them before or make your tastebuds wonder for what can it entail. Their sauce selection also wasn't great. I usually hit both for different reasons, but for me both are part of the required shopping for a properly stocked pantry. I can highly recommend it. Siegfriedplatz — Wednesday and Fridays 7:00 — 13:00. Current address is Fredrich-Ebert-Strasse 9. When I do, I come here.

They currently have several copies of one of my favourite cooks books — Apples for Jam for only 7 euros. You can try Guecca in Belsenplatz. I was fortunate to had discovered Spring Home brand egg roll wrappers, bottles of Datu Puti vinegar, and packages super sweet Philippine Dried Mangoes. And for those new to Bielefeld, welcome! Slightly related tip: The great thing about the market in the plaza there Saturday mornings until 12ish is that they often have rows and rows of super-discounted fruits and vegetables. Should be a nice place to meet after work once the weather warms up.

It's just to tell you that you won't feel like you've stepped into an asian jungle of madness that you won't be able to get help or find your way out. It mainly specialises in Chinese, Korean and Japanese groceries but they also have spices and stuff for Indian food. All in all, it's new and shiny. For example Nigella Lawson and Jamie Oliver all at a discounted price too. For Berlin, I was amazed to find the ingredients I needed to cook a fusion korean, filipino, japanese, hawaiian dinner for a group of 15 people. The selection is comparable to a shop that I went to previously which is much further out west.

The refrigerated section was somewhat off putting because the fridge was not working and the shelves were warm, however anything frozen was frozen. They also have a much larger freezer section with a different selection of fish and dumplings. All in all a good place to find asian food products at a reasonable price in berlin. Great place for Asian groceries. Although, Japanese, Thai, Chinese, and Korean ingredients and specialty foods are also sold at Asia Mekong: Sauces and spices, dried seaweed wrappers, assortments of bagged and loose leaf teas, oodles of noodles, and frozen dumplings give em a try; they're surprisingly good for being frozen! There's definitely a selection of rice, but I always go with Thai Elephant Brand.
