Unfortunately, the only Curtiss bike that has been seen in public is the Curtiss 8 and it seems to have been forgotten. And that model was a Curtiss 8, not a Hades. But that's to be expected in this dog-eat-dog world of survival, as long as they get it right. Though it may have trouble keeping the front wheel down to the pavement. That's also consistent with last year's claim that the original Hades would be available sometime in 2020.

Imagine what you'd look like with your legs over it going down the road! Considering that critical components like batteries and motors can be mounted just about anywhere on an electric motorcycle, these bikes provide the opportunity to build some really wild designs. Curtiss has made a bold move abandoning its previous internal combustion customs to focus on electric bikes. It's another case of a small outfit vainly trying their darnedest to stand out from the crowd. Lascivious gaps in the girder shapes help reduce material use and weight, and suspension is handled by a single monoshock beneath the headlight. The production version is likely to also feature carbon fiber components, reports. Those two models are the internal combustion engine Warkhawk and the newly redesigned Hades. It's hard to call this a minimalist design, given how geometrically busy the whole thing is, but Nesbitt's work certainly has something to say about how electric motors can be designed to actually look good instead of being big, fat boxes of sadness around which designers must try to salvage some sense of style. Combined with the fins, the battery should stay cool as a cucumber.

In 1904 when the American aeronaut Thomas Scott Baldwin bought a Curtiss motorbike engine to power his airship California Arrow. Matthew Chambers said the company changed the name to honour motorcycle racer Glenn Curtiss who invented the first American V-Twin motorcycle. Curtiss says the Hades 1 will be available for sale in the late spring of 2020, which would mean that what we see here must be pretty close to production-ready. Though its girder fork certainly takes a distinctive look. The battery features a capacity of 16. Yes, it trades capacity and range for style, but holy moly, what style — and hopefully, one day, range will cease to be the issue it is today.

Curtiss says production will start in the spring of 2020. That's still a significant chunk of change. Further, the company claimed that the machine was already in production. A long-wheelbase version boasts a 31 degree rake angle and six inches of ground clearance. It's a girder-style setup with wicked carbon fangs holding the front axle.

Curtiss Hades, the well

The battery capacity has been quoted at 16. It would be nice to see a company like Curtiss that seemingly thinks outside the box become successful. The entire bike looks a bit more like the block that the original Hades seems to have been carved from. And what Matt Chambers so eloquently states rings hollow if you notice the dumpy atelier behind him with a partially disassembled engine hanging from the sprinkler pipe. Despite all of the fresh designs that have come out of the Curtiss studio, we still haven't seen them outside of cyberspace. It quickly became the electric motorcycle seen round-the-internet after its appearance received certain anatomical comparisons.

You have to hand it to. Another interesting design aspect is the adjustable rake angle. Curtiss Motorcycles Open space pervades the design, most notably with the almost sacrilegious gap between the battery box and the backbone of the frame, which is partially filled in by a flat-laid rear shock sitting further forward than on any bike we can remember, with a linkage back to the top of the rear wheel. Designed around the idea of using as many parts as possible for more than one purpose, the Hades packs a 16. The pair has since been working on prepping a Curtiss Hades prototype for validation and tuning, which is expected to commence this winter. Exactly what those mean is not immediately clear.

The Curtiss 8 was shown at the Quail Motorsports Gathering, but it was not a running example. It will power the rear wheel via chain drive, that has become so popular in many already whisper-quiet electric motorcycles. Their electric motorcycle designs are way, way outside the box, and that can be a good thing. Now, the battery pack is attached to the frame and looks more like a part of the overall machine. At first glance, I thought the phallic thing in front was the motor. Curtiss began his career in the bicycle business, earning fame as one of the leading cycle racers in western New York state before building lightweight internal-combustion engines for motorcycles. Is it especially strange that the machine has yet to be seen in public? Will Curtiss deliver a Hades 1 electric motorcycle to a paying customer in 2020? This allows for a dirt bike-like eight inches of clearance, a 27 degree rake angle, and a lower center of gravity, making it easy to mount and comfortable to ride.
